The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man after an 80-year-old resident of Mundadu Village, Bindawa Local Government Area, was found unconscious and later died, the police said.
According to a police statement relayed by the command, the incident took place on September 21, 2026, when the District Head of Bindawa, Dan Yusufan Katsina, alerted the Bindawa Police Division that the elderly man was lying motionless in front of his home. Detectives were deployed to the scene and the victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed his death.
The preliminary investigation led to the arrest of the deceased’s son. The police said the suspect allegedly admitted during interrogation to striking his father on the head with a stick, causing injuries that resulted in the man’s death. The Katsina police said the Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Fage, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough inquiry.
The Police Public Relations Officer, identified in police releases as DSP Abubakar Sadiq, said the suspect will be charged in court when investigators conclude their work. The command expressed condolences to the bereaved family and vowed to pursue the matter to ensure justice.
