Flamingos rout Togo 4-0 to lift WAFU-B U-17 Girls Cup
Nigeria’s U17 women, the Flamingos, won the 2026 WAFU-B U-17 Girls Cup after a 4-0 victory over Togo in Yamoussoukro, Cote d’Ivoire.
The Flamingos completed a perfect campaign, winning all five matches in the tournament and finishing with 17 goals scored and two conceded, a record reported by tournament coverage.
Captain Chidera Harmony converted two penalties in the first half to give Nigeria a clear lead. Channels Television reported the penalties were taken in the 15th minute and 20 minutes later.
Oluebube Umejiaku extended the lead in the 67th minute, and Oluwakemi Adegbuyi sealed the result with a 90th-minute strike.
The team now turns its attention to the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
Complete Sports listed the Flamingos’ earlier results in the WAFU-B tournament as a 5-0 win over Niger Republic, a 4-2 victory over Ghana, and 2-0 wins against Burkina Faso and hosts Cote d’Ivoire.
Emmanuel Ikpeme, the Acting General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation, praised the players and officials for their performance. Ikpeme was quoted by Channels Television saying, “The Flamingos have done very well, made the nation proud, and I have faith in the players that they are not done yet. I have confidence in the team to go to Morocco and achieve great things at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup that is starting next month.”
Channels Television also reported that the team will return to Nigeria on Tuesday.
