Enyimba will take on Kano Pillars in a Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, Matchday 6 fixture at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Sunday, with the club still searching for its first league win of the season.
The nine-time champions have lost their opening four league games and sit at the bottom of the table with one outstanding match to play, sources reporting on the club said.
Assistant coach Okechukwu Ejeh told the club’s media the team travelled to Kano determined to secure all three points. “We are not here for a tea party; we are here for serious business. We are here to get the three points,” he said, according to club media reports (Complete Sports) and (Daily Post).
Ejeh added the players were prepared on several fronts. “We are mentally ready, physically ready and tactically ready for this game. Believe me, we are optimistic that we are not leaving this ancient city empty-handed,” he said, according to the same reports.
Despite the poor start, Ejeh said Enyimba remain focused on qualifying for continental competition this season. “Our vision remains to play on the continent. We are not too worried about our position for now. We will get the continental ticket,” he told the club’s media.
The comments follow a difficult opening run for Enyimba, who must reverse their form quickly if they are to climb the NPFL table. The Pillars fixture offers an opportunity to stop the run of defeats and pick up vital points.
Both Complete Sports and Daily Post carried Ejeh’s remarks and the match details in their reports (Complete Sports), (Daily Post).
