Nigeria’s Super Eagles returned to training in Uyo on Saturday after a 2-1 victory over Madagascar in their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match, as the squad prepares for Tuesday’s away fixture against Guinea-Bissau.
The team held a light recovery session at the practice pitch of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, with all 24 players in camp taking part, Completesports and Daily Post reported. Head coach Éric Chelle led the squad as preparations continued for the Group L match at the Estádio Nacional 24 de Setembro in Bissau.
Guinea-Bissau top Group L on goal difference after a 2-0 win over Tanzania in their opening game, while Nigeria occupy second place following the win over Madagascar, the reports said.
Completesports and Daily Post said the Super Eagles were expected to intensify training on Sunday before travelling to Bissau. Daily Post also reported that the team would hold a closed session at the practice pitch on Sunday morning, according to the team’s media officer, Promise Efoghe.
Efoghe was further quoted by Daily Post as giving the squad’s travel schedule: the team was due to arrive at Victor Attah International Airport at 2 p.m. on Sunday, then depart for Bissau about an hour later. Daily Post added the match in Bissau is scheduled to kick off at 5 p.m. Nigerian time.
In Group L’s other Matchday 2 fixture, Madagascar will host Tanzania on Tuesday, Completesports and Daily Post reported.
The Super Eagles’ recovery work in Uyo comes after a physical opening game. Both outlets noted the coaching staff focused the Saturday session on recuperation following Friday’s match, while planning to raise intensity in the final training before departure.
