Nigeria’s Super Eagles have arrived in Bissau ahead of their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations Group L qualifier against Guinea-Bissau, two local sports outlets reported.
The team, led by head coach Eric Chelle, travelled from Uyo and landed in the Guinea-Bissau capital ahead of Tuesday’s match, which forms part of the qualifying series for the 2027 AFCON to be hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
The arrival was reported by Complete Sports, which said the Super Eagles touched down at Osvaldo Vieira International Airport on Sunday evening and that the arrival was confirmed by the team media officer, Peomise Efoghe. Daily Post also reported the squad had reached Bissau ahead of the top-of-the-table fixture.
Nigeria come into the game on the back of a 2-1 win over Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium last Friday. Guinea-Bissau opened their campaign with a 2-0 victory away to Tanzania, results reported by both outlets.
Complete Sports named George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor as debut goalscorers in Nigeria’s win over Madagascar. Daily Post said the Super Eagles had been based in Uyo since that match and held a recovery session on Saturday followed by a training session on Sunday morning.
Complete Sports reported the Bissau fixture will be played on Tuesday, September 29, at the Estadio 24 de Setembro. Daily Post described the match as a top-of-the-table clash and said Nigeria currently sit second in Group L.
Both outlets emphasised the importance of the fixture for Nigeria’s qualification hopes, with a positive result in Bissau expected to strengthen the Super Eagles’ position in the group.
