Olusola Adeyeye, the South-west coordinator of the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign council and a former senator for Osun Central, said President Bola Tinubu will not lose the South-west in the January 16, 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Adeyeye told the programme that the APC would win the region if the party remained united. He warned that any party that underestimated the contest was suffering “self-delusion,” and said the APC was working “very hard” to win.
“I make bold: anyone from any party who thinks the next election will be easy for it is suffering self-delusion. We in the APC, we work very hard to win, and I want to assure you that we will win,” Adeyeye said on the programme. “I also want to assure you. We will win big. I care that we win the South West, and we’re going to shock everybody.” (Channels Television)
Adeyeye added that even if Tinubu were to lose the South-west, that would not necessarily end his presidential bid, citing former President Olusegun Obasanjo as an example of a Yoruba politician who lost the region yet became president.
The former senator said the APC would win Osun in the 2027 election. He attributed much of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s popularity in the state to the influence of the governor’s late father and elder brother.
On the role of former governor Rauf Aregbesola and the African Democratic Congress in Osun, Adeyeye questioned the ADC’s performance in the August 15, 2026 governorship poll and said Aregbesola was not a candidate in the forthcoming general election. He added that if Aregbesola were a candidate the contest would be different, but where he was not on the ballot his personal popularity would not automatically transfer to another person.
