This is coming on the heels of the feelers that the position may have been zoned to the South-west where he hails from

Following indications that the party may have agreed to zone the position of the Speaker to the North, some members-elect have prevailed on Akinlade to vie for the position, being a high ranking member from the South West.

Akinlade, representing Egbado South/Ipokia/Federal Constituency is an experienced lawmaker who was the Chairman of House Committee on Science and Technology both in the 6th and 7th Assembly.

He was a foundation member and National Officer of South-West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA), a group which worked assiduously for the victory of the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu at the recently concluded Presidential election.

Until his election for the fourth term, Akinlade was appointed a Federal Commissioner representing Ogun state of the Board of the Federal Character Commission by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The lawmaker, who was a former Special Adviser to a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, also contested for the governorship of Ogun state in the past.

Akinlade is currently enjoying the support of majority of the members-elect and had begun to network, spreading his tentacles to get the backing of the new members-elect ahead of the inauguration of the 10th Assembly.
