President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the fight against Boko Haram terrorists and bandits would soon be won by the Nigerian military.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, the president stated that the fight against terrorists is approaching its conclusion following successes recorded in Borno and some other northern states.
He added that the challenges of banditry and kidnapping are being tackled differently in the North-western and North Central states due to the designation of bandit groups as terrorists.
The Nigerian leader also sent his best wishes to Muslims in Nigeria and across the world celebrating the occasion as the Holy month of Ramadan reaches its end and Muslims mark the Eid-el-Fitri.
The National Association of Nigerian Students has warned political parties against holding their presidential primaries in the Federal Capital Territory.
The President of the association, Sunday Asefon, gave this warning in a statement released on Sunday.
The Peoples Democratic Party has the intention of holding its presidential candidate in Abuja, while the ruling All Progressives Congress is reportedly planning to hold its primaries in Abuja.
NANS called on the political parties to either end the industrial action of the Academic Staff Union of Universities or forget about the presidential primary in Abuja.
The group lamented that people in charge of the smooth running of Education in the country, Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba; and Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, have purchased the N100m presidential forms of the APC.
The Nigerian Army has accused the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) of using propaganda to ridicule the government institution.
According to the Army Spokesman, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, IPOB members are circulating pictures of fake soldiers arrested by troops online to blackmail and malign the Nigerian army.
In a statement on Sunday in Abuja, Nwachukwu fingered one IPOB member, named Solomon Okafor of Radio Biafra London as the brain behind the propaganda against the army.
Nwachukwu said Okafor had been peddling malicious information and falsehood on social media, alleging complicity by troops in a fictitious case of the kidnapping of a family of 10 in Kaduna State.
Governor of Edo, Godwin Obaseki, has put a smile on the faces of civil servants in the state as he approved N40,000 as the new minimum wage in the state.
The new development was announced on Sunday, May 1 which marks Nigeria’s Workers’ Day, Naija News reports.
In his worker’s day speech made available to newsmen, Obaseki reassured civil servants in the state of his government’s commitment to their welfare.
He promised to prioritize Edo workers and equip them with the capacity to deliver quality service.
A former secretary to the government of the federation (SGF) and presidential candidate, Chief Olu Falae has claimed he won the 1999 presidential election.
Naija News recalls that former President Olusegun Obasanjo, then with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had defeated Falae who contested the election on the joint platform of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) and All Peoples Party (APP).
Speaking in an interview with Daily Trust, Falae claimed that the then military changed election results in favour of Obasanjo while he was asleep.
According to him, the military government felt they will be safer under the administration of Obasanjo, a former army general.
Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has expressed solidarity with Nigerian workers over their cry of hunger, inflation and other challenges in the country.
Atiku asked the workers in the country to change their poor state of living and working conditions by voting out the All Progressives Congres (APC) during the 2023 elections at the federal and state levels.
The presidential aspirant made this known in a statement issued on Sunday in commemoration of the 2022 International Workers’ Day.
According to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, the workers can change the fortunes of the country by electing a leader that would cater for their needs and that of their families.
The statement read, “Dear Nigerian workers, I will like you to know that I feel your unbearable pains and pang of hunger, hyperinflation, mass unemployment and insecurity challenges you encounter in your daily lives.
The son of the Chairman of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Professor Ango Abdullahi and his late wife, Senator Aisha Jummai Alhassan, aka Mama Taraba, Sadiq Abdullahi has regained his freedom after spending a month in the terrorists’ den.
Naija News recalls that Abdullahi was among hundreds of people kidnapped in the Abuja-Kaduna train attack that happened on 28 March 2022.
At least sixty casualties were recorded in the incident which happened in Katari, Kaduna State, Nigeria while an uncertain number of people were kidnapped by the terrorists.
Reports, however, reaching Naija News on Sunday (today), confirmed that Abdullahi was released on Friday after yet to be disclosed amount was paid as ransom to the terrorists.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has promised to rescue Nigerian workers from the All Progressives Congress-led government in 2023.
The PDP appreciated Nigerian workers for their patriotism, patience and determination toward nation-building in spite of various challenges in the country.
The opposition party added that the workers in the country have been badly treated by the ruling party, asking them to vote out bad governance in 2023.
Naija News reports that the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, made this known in a statement on Sunday to commemorate the 2022 International Workers Day.
It also called on the workers and indeed all Nigerians to remain calm and keep hope alive as the PDP takes strong steps to democratically return to power in 2023.
Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari has been sued over the continued stay of Kaduna train attack victims in terrorists’ captivity.
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) dragged the President before the ECOWAS Court of Justice in Abuja, in a suit filed together with an application for an expedited hearing.
In the suit, No ECW/CCJ/APP/20/22 filed last week, the organisation said the Buhari government has failed to protect the rights to life, security, and dignity of the victims of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack.
SERAP added that the federal government has failed in its responsibility to secure the safe release of the passengers held captive by the terrorists.
Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has cautioned that the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) is treading a dangerous path by opposing the 2023 presidency.
Ohanaeze in a statement on Sunday by its national publicity secretary, Alex Ogbonia said NEF is opposing zoning because it is not the turn of the north to produce Nigeria’s next President in 2023.
He warned that the actions so far taken by NEF are capable of destroying the vital values that have given balance to Nigeria as a country for many years.
Ogbonia stated further that zoning was agreed upon by some national leaders since about 1994 in the interest of justice, equity and peace, urged NEF to reconsider its stand and support the zoning of the 2023 presidency to the south and particularly to the southeast.
The statement however commended leaders and statesmen who have openly spoken in favour of zoning the 2023 presidency to the south.
