In a stunning political twist, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has abandoned the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the All People’s Party (APP), ahead of the October 5 local government elections.
Fubara directed all 23 local government chairmen to contest the elections under the APP banner, marking a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.
The move follows Fubara’s loss of control over the PDP structure in Rivers State to former governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Sources close to the governor confirm that the decision is aimed at countering Wike’s dominance in the state.
“The governor has made it clear that he will not be dictated to by anyone,” a source revealed. “This move is a bold statement of intent.”
Wike’s camp remains unfazed, with insiders insisting that the PDP’s stronghold in Rivers remains unshaken.
