Plateau United beat Inter Lagos 2-0 at the New Jos Stadium on Sunday, with Gideon Monday and Jibrin Ibrahim scoring in the second half. The victory moved Plateau United into second place in the league table.
The result and the scorers were reported by Complete Sports and Daily Post, which covered the match on Sunday. Both outlets said the Peace Boys created several clear chances in the first half but failed to convert them before scoring after the break.
Plateau United are unbeaten in their last five league matches, a run that includes three wins and two draws, the club’s technical adviser Gbenga Ogunbote told the media after the game.
Ogunbote said his side must become more clinical in front of goal. “I think it is worrisome, no doubt. Every coach wants to win from the first minute of the game, but sometimes anxiety and other factors can affect a team,” he said, according to Complete Sports. He added, “Honestly, we need to work seriously on it so that we can take our chances and, at least, remove pressure from our game. We will keep working on it until we get it right.”
The coach framed this season as different to the previous one, which he described as a rescue mission. “They are two different assignments. Last season was a rescue mission; this season is a tournament to make an impact and win laurels,” Ogunbote said, as reported by Complete Sports.
Daily Post reported that Plateau United occupy second place on the table with 11 points from six matches. Complete Sports noted the club’s improvement from last season, when they battled relegation before securing top-flight survival.
Ogunbote cautioned that the league remains a long competition. “No secret, other than hard work. If there is a level playing ground, everything will go on smoothly,” he said, adding that the team must not get carried away and that supporters should continue to rally behind them, according to Complete Sports.
