Barau FC and Sporting Lagos played out a 1-1 draw in their Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, Matchday 6 fixture at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, on Saturday.
On the stroke of half-time Barau took the lead as Joseph Atule converted from the penalty spot after Stanley Oganbor was fouled inside the box. Sporting Lagos replied in the second half when Sodiq Ayoade levelled the score.
The final 30 minutes passed without either side altering the score, so the points were shared.
Sporting Lagos head coach Jeffrey Buter described the result as disappointing and said his side deserved more. “Yeah, disappointing, like you said. I think we deserved more than a draw. We should have won this game,” Buter told the club’s media, as reported by Complete Sports and Daily Post.
Buter also commented on officiating and his players’ resilience. “I think another day, the officiating is better, I think we get maximum points from this game. I am happy with the fight and courage,” he said, according to the reports.
Buter criticised his team’s finishing and cited fatigue as a factor in failure to convert chances, telling the club’s media that Sporting Lagos created opportunities but “we didn’t score early enough and the opponent took what they got,” Complete Sports reported.
Complete Sports added that the draw allowed Barau FC to remain top of the league table and extend their unbeaten run. Daily Post reported Sporting Lagos will face Ikorodu City in their next league game.
