President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led a wave of tributes to former Ogun State governor, Senator Gbenga Daniel, as he marked his 70th birthday, praising his enduring contributions to governance and national development.<\/p>\n
\u201cI salute Otunba Daniel for his professional exploits, governance strides, and political achievements. He accomplished these feats by dint of hard work, tenacity, wisdom, and courage,\u201d the president stated, describing him as a progressive politician and a true Afenifere man.<\/p>\n
Tinubu also acknowledged Daniel\u2019s service to Ogun State and Nigeria, commending his commitment to socio-political and economic development, while wishing him continued good health and impactful years ahead.<\/p>\n
At the thanksgiving service, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye, also extolled Daniel\u2019s integrity and faith, urging Nigerians to embrace the fear of God as the foundation of wisdom and purposeful living.<\/p>\n
In his vote of thanks, Daniel expressed appreciation to President Tinubu, Governor Dapo Abiodun, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, and other dignitaries for honouring him.<\/p>\n
In a moment that drew laughter, he humorously described Amosun as an \u201cenfant terrible successor,\u201d reflecting on their political history with candour.<\/p>\n
\u201cLet me appreciate the former governors who are here, especially the one they call Ajiri, Senator Ibikunle Amosun\u2014a fine, terrible successor of mine.<\/p>\n
He showed me hell, but we thank God, with the prayers of our clergymen, he has repented. Ibikunle, thank you very much. We started the race together, but you were in too much of a hurry.<\/p>\n
You fought for the crown, and you got it. I still wish you well,\u201d Daniel said.<\/p>\n
The event drew an impressive array of dignitaries, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who was represented by his wife, Chief Bola Obasanjo; Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke; former deputy governors of Ogun State, Salmot Makanjuola Badru and Yetunde Onanuga; Ambassador Tokunboh Dosumu-Awolowo; Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola; and a host of political associates and long-time allies.<\/p>\n
A highlight of the celebration was the unveiling of a 266-page book chronicling Daniel\u2019s life and accomplishments.<\/p>\n
The initiative, led by Kola Onadipe, the 2002\u20132003 OGD Campaign Team Leader, brought together associates who have supported his political journey over the years.<\/p>\n
Among those present were former Director General, Bureau of Lands and Survey, Surveyor Gbenga Ogunnoiki; Chairman of Bet9ja, Kunle Soname; Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello; and Yemi Sodimu, among others. The book offers a comprehensive account of Daniel\u2019s contributions to public service and his achievements over the years.<\/p>\n
Traditional rulers were also well represented, led by the Alake of Egbaland, Adedotun Gbadebo; the Akarigbo of Remoland, Babatunde Ajayi; and the Olubadan of Ibadan, Rasheed Ladoja, alongside other eminent personalities from across the country.<\/p>\n
Also in attendance were notable figures including renowned industrialist Chief Solomon Onafowokan, Engr. Gbenga Osinaike, Chief Funlola Okunowo, Adedeji Osibogun, Giwa of Egbe Bagbimo of Ijebu; and Ademorin Aliu Kuye, among other distinguished guests.
\nOfficiating ministers at the service included Bishop Fasina Fape and Rev. Dr. Oliver Ali Aba, JP, who joined other clergy in ministering at the well-attended thanksgiving celebration.<\/p>\n
The ceremony, rich in tributes, worship, and goodwill, underscored the far-reaching influence and enduring legacy of the celebrant, as dignitaries from all walks of life gathered to honour a life defined by service, leadership, and impact.<\/p>\n
