He noted that, by God’s grace, the process would mark the first truly peaceful handover in Ogun State’s 50-year history.

“As 2027 draws near, we are confident that we will finish well and finish strong. This administration will hand over power peacefully to the next government. By God’s grace, I will attend my send-forth ceremony as governor and also witness the swearing-in of my successor,” he said.

The governor attributed his confidence to what he described as measurable progress recorded in governance, economic growth and people-driven development under his leadership. He revealed that Ogun State’s economy has expanded significantly, with the annual budget growing from about ₦355 billion at the start of his administration to over ₦2.7 trillion.

He explained that the growth reflects increased economic activities, rising investor confidence and sustained development across the state. Abiodun disclosed that his administration has reconstructed more than 2,000 schools, created employment opportunities, empowered farmers and expanded access to economic opportunities for residents.

“Our economy has grown nearly fivefold from what we met. Industries and factories are springing up across the state. We have rebuilt schools, created jobs and supported our farmers, and there is still more to be done. We need your prayers to help us end this tenure strongly,” the governor stated.

Reaffirming his commitment to service, Abiodun said he would continue to use his office to glorify God and serve the people through impactful and inclusive projects. He cited the Gateway International Airport and other major infrastructure developments across the three senatorial districts as enduring legacies of his administration.

The governor also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as focused and purposeful leadership under the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting signs of national recovery, including improved fuel availability, easing inflation and a more stable foreign exchange environment.

Reflecting on the essence of Christmas, Abiodun reminded residents that the season is not merely about celebration and merriment but about love, peace and compassion, particularly for the vulnerable in society.

“Christmas is not about shopping or partying. It is about love—loving your neighbour as yourself. God gave us the greatest gift by giving us Jesus to die for our sins. In this season, we must also remember to give and show kindness to those who are less privileged,” he said.

He urged residents to emulate Christ in their daily lives, relationships and conduct, advising moderation during festivities and warning against excessive alcohol consumption.

In his sermon titled “Christmas Is God’s Best Gift to You,” the Vicar of the church, Venerable Tolulope Akinwande, described Christmas as the period when God gave Himself to humanity through the birth of Jesus Christ. Drawing from Hebrews 1:2–3 and John 1:2, 14, he said the purpose of Christ’s birth is fulfilled only when the gift of salvation is accepted.

The cleric stressed that Jesus came to redeem mankind from sin and that God’s love remains boundless despite human weaknesses. He encouraged believers to embrace Christ’s sacrifice and live transformed lives that reflect His character.

Ven. Akinwande also commended Governor Abiodun for what he described as purposeful and transformative leadership in Ogun State, praying that the end of his administration would be greater than its beginning.

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has given assurances that his administration will achieve a smooth, peaceful and conflict-free transfer of power at the end of his second term in 2027.
