{"id":4513,"date":"2024-12-17T07:07:54","date_gmt":"2024-12-17T07:07:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/citywatch.ng\/?p=4513"},"modified":"2025-03-12T12:31:51","modified_gmt":"2025-03-12T12:31:51","slug":"fg-declares-free-train-rides-for-festive-period-to-cushion-high-cost-of-transportation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citywatch.ng\/?p=4513","title":{"rendered":"FG Declares Free Train Rides For Festive Period To Cushion High Cost Of Transportation\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Government on Monday said it would offer free train service to all Nigerians from Dec. 20 up until Jan. 5, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Alhaji Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, said this while briefing State House correspondents after the FEC meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>Idris said the free train service was consistent with President Tinubu\u2019s desire to cushion the effect of high transportation costs for the most vulnerable Nigerians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRecall that this also happened in the last Christmas period and the Sellah period. And Mr President has also approved that this year, from Dec. 20 to Jan. 5, there will be free transport service nationwide,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister also said FEC approved a proposal by President Tinubu to rename the University of Abuja to honour General Yakubu Gowon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe University of Abuja will now be known as Yakubu Gowon University.
