Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has launched the Lagos Revenue Portal (LRP), a platform designed to simplify non-tax payment by resident and corporate entities in the state and aggregate all Lagos State bills and payments across Minisries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), making the entire process more efficient, convenient and secure.<\/p>\n
In a short speech delivered by the Governor before the official launch of the platform, he stated that the innovation is yet another milestone in his administration’s effort to transform Lagos into an enviable business friendly state in Nigeria.<\/p>\n
“Today, we are gathered to witness yet another milestone in our collective effort to transform Lagos into the most business-friendly state in Nigeria.<\/p>\n
“The LRP represents our commitment to innovation, transparency, and ease of doing business in Lagos state.<\/p>\n
“The importance of efficient revenue collection cannot be over emphasised. It is the lifeblood of governance and development.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough it, we can fund critical infrastructure, provide essential services, and improve the quality of life for every Lagosian.<\/p>\n
“This portal is more than just a platform; it is a game-changer. It is designed to streamline the payer enumeration process, making it easier for individuals and businesses to comply with their tax obligations,\u201d Sanwo-Olu stated.<\/p>\n
He urged the tax-paying public and stakeholders in revenue space to embrace the innovation, pointing out that the new approach was a necessary change needed to block revenue leakage and enhance transparency.<\/p>\n
According to the Governor,, the success of the portal, would depend on its adoption by payers it was designed to serve. He urged the public to take advantage of the initiative to simplify their interactions with the Government, thereby contributing to the growth and development of the State<\/p>\n
While delivering his speech, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Taxation and Revenue, Mr. Abdul-Kabir Ogungbo, said LRP was a key component of the Lagos strategic Revenue Framework, noting that the operational leg of the portal had fully integrated the data and processes of revenue-generating MDAs.<\/p>\n
Ogungbo said the portal has also achieved sector-based harmonisation to allow businesses make single centralised payment to MDAs within the same sector.<\/p>\n
The Chairman of Lagos Inland Revenue Service (LIRS), Mr. Ayodele Subair, said the new portal would improve operational capabilities and reinforce the trust of the citizens in the Government.<\/p>\n
He said the transition would foster compliance and strengthen the revenue base of the State.<\/p>\n
On his own part, the Chief Executive Officer of Alpha Beta Consulting, Mr. Akinsanya Doherty, said the portal would not only simplify revenue collection, but would also empower the citizens with the information needed to contribute to the growth of the State.
