The impeached Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt Hon (Prince) Olakunle Taiwo Oluomo has emphasised that the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun is not part of the ongoing issues in the state Assembly.
Rt Hon Oluomo explained that when the mace was forcefully hijacked from the bearer and the chambers forced opened by Legislators, the place he ran to was the Governor’s office where the Governor expressed shock at the show of shame
According to Oluomo, “We just returned from the Cultural centre at Kuto where the Governor swore in some new judges. I was in my office waiting for other Honourable members to commence our usual Executive session before the plenary when two honorables, (whose names I wont mention for now) hijacked the mace from the Sergeant at arms and headed to break into the chambers. I immediately left the office and went straight to the Governor’s office”
” I did this in order to avoid any casualty due to the respect and honour I always accord the Governor as the captain of our ship. Mr Governor was shocked. He asked if I wa as not attacked and persuaded me to keep calm with an assurance that he would handle it”
The Speaker who gave this explanation while addressing journalists in his official lodge in the Legislative quarters on Friday evening stated that he had been silent on the matter since it occurred in Tuesday because he was expecting the Intervention of the Governor and party leaders in the state.
“Governor Dapo Abiodun is my benefactor, my destiny helper and a great leader to me. I can never be ungrateful to him. I decided to talk now after the state government has reacted.
“I have also received an impeachment notice from the clerk on Wednesday and I have responded accordingly even though I have 72 hours to respond , according to law.
“Since I became Speaker for this tenth Assembly, I have not found it easy at all. Members have been giving me one issue or the other but the Governor has always been coming to our aide.” He noted
Asked about his relationship with the senator representing Ogun west in the national Assembly, Senator Solomon Adeola ,popularly known as Yayi, Rt Hon Oluomo described him as a very good friend.
